CH Smokey Topaz n’ Barrett’s Santa Margarita Peak – Age 3
[hr gap=”1″]Mango (2017 Boulder x Smokey Topaz Lenka) was our stud fee puppy out of Jim and Debbie Ebert’s 2017 Boulder x Lenka Mountain Peak Nine litter. In Autumn 2018, Mango earned her Show/Bench Championship title this year at the Black Mountain Kennel Club shows in Nevada. It’s true, Barry and I are a happily married couple, but ask ANYONE, and they can tell you without hesitation that Mango (and Britta) are “Barry’s dogs.” LOL!!! Barry can also be heard saying, “I picked her” anytime anyone says Mango achieved anything worth noting… For example, “RWB at the Winter Specialty, Major # 1, Major # 2, Major # 3, natural point on birds, counter surfer extraordinaire, popcorn enthusiast, bed hog, pillow thief, etc.” In Winter 2019, Mango participated in the 7th Running of the National Weimaraner Association’s Derby stake in Conway, Arkansas. Two weeks later, she earned a Placement at the GSPC of Las Cruces’ Field Trial.
More about Mango. Mango’s grandmother is our foundation bitch, Friday. If you’ve been following Trailing Friday for any length of time now, you’ll know that our entire lives revolve around her, her kids, and her grandkids. We photo-journal the crap out of them. Mango in particular is incredibly photogenic. She’s also brilliant, sassy, tenacious, and mischievous. That said, she’s also friendly, kind, mellow, demure, and poised. Mango is the kind of dog that breeders dream about.
When I’m meeting someone at a coffee shop to introduce them to Weimaraners, she’s my go-to girl. Friendly with everyone she sees, content to sit under a table, quiet as a church mouse, she almost lulls people into a false sense the Weimaraners are perfect. (They are not.)
Mango was the six month old puppy who inadvertently spent an entire afternoon loose in the house while we were away. (We forgot to lock her up, oops.) We came home to an angel who was still sleeping on her bed, and she hadn’t touched a thing.
On another occasion, I was traveling with Mango to Arkansas, and we had stopped at a friend’s house in New Mexico for the night. (We were on our way to a National Field Trial, and Mango actually placed Third in the National Open Derby Stake!) I left Mango in the guest bedroom so I could have some dinner and conversation. By now, I knew her well enough to expect this, but I was still impressed when I returned a few hours later, and she was just sitting on the bed, waiting for me.
Mango is also the kind of girl who will shoot you a dirty look or sneer in your direction… all because you wouldn’t share the chicken. After all, she is a Weimaraner, and Weimaraners are S-P-E-C-I-A-L.
Really though, Mango’s best trait is that she’s good natured. And she’s more affectionate than most of them. Mango is the one who has to ride shotgun with her head on your lap. She’s under the covers with her head on your pillow. And she’s always down for a road trip, no matter where the location.
