Started Dogs
The Barrett Weimaraners breeding program is built on data and observation. Because it is impossible to know a dog’s potential value at the typical age puppies are old enough to leave their mom and littermates (8-10 weeks), there is typically one good prospect puppy from every litter that stays within the Barrett Collective so we can learn more about him/her before we know what kind of home the puppy should ultimately be placed in.
As puppies grow, we continually evaluate them for potential in various venues. Those who excel end up in performance homes. Those who wash-out (in other words, don’t make the grade because they’re too sensitve, too mellow, don’t have enough intensity, don’t have enough long range stamina, etc.) later end up in companion/pet homes.
The benefit of owning a started dog is that dogs will have been potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, and been given a well socialized start in life.
