Dear friends and colleagues:
For the past few months, we’ve been working on a secret project. And the secret is now out.
We’re delighted to announce that there’s a new Weimaraner rescue in town! In absence of a more creative name, we’ve landed on “California Weimaraner Education and Rescue.” CalWEAR, for short.
Unfortunately, we’re not selling apparel. (And yes, we should have thought of that before landing on the acronym.)
But we are rescuing Weimaraners. And when the time is right, we will be placing them in responsible adoptive homes.
The idea for launching a rescue was actually planted quite some time ago when we assisted folks who approached us directly through our breeding websites about re-homing their Weimaraners. (Yes, we are breeders, and no, we’re not ashamed of that.) By the time we read our twenty-seventh email with the subject line, “Need to Rehome Weimaraner,” we realized we needed to do something more. The interesting thing was, many of these families did not want their Weimaraners surrendered to local area shelters or other Weimaraner rescues because they wanted their dog(s) to remain in a home environment before a new home was found.
So CalWEAR was formed with the idea that we would become a network of foster homes to care for Weimaraners that need our help.
So far, it has been a monumentally rewarding experience.
We know there are other rescues in town. We don’t wish to devalue their tremendous efforts; we’re just here to be an additional resource for those Weimaraners who need us.
Lastly, if you have any comments or suggestions you can share with us to help us get off to a good start, we’d greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your support!
