This week, we entered the Awareness or Identification Period (21-28 days). Because the puppies’ sense of fear has not yet developed, this is the best time to expose them to new things. With full functioning sight and hearing, we exposed them to the below listed elements. We also weaned the puppies onto real food. See this post on how that first afternoon went.
A few blog posts went up this week. Lots of good photos:
- Announcement regarding our partnership with The Honest Kitchen
- Photos of puppies playing around after mealtime

And, a photo summary:
We finally let the kids pet and play with the puppies. They were beyond thrilled. Mamma Friday stood by just to verify no one took her babies.
“Are you my Daddy?” – YELLOW GIRL and MAX.
(Holly (co-breeder) and Max (puppy papa) were in town this weekend for the Long Beach shows, so they stopped in on Saturday afternoon to look over and play with the puppies. More photos from that afternoon are posted here.)
BLUE BOY, trolling around the backyard.
GREEN BOY, moving around after breakfast.
Holly getting a good look at PINK GIRL. She was the first girl to climb out of the whelping box on Saturday morning.
ORANGE BOY, showing us his nice front. He was the first one over the threshold this week.
PURPLE GIRL, showing us her white chest.
BLACK BOY and his duckie. Note: he has a very defined cowlick between his eyes that runs in a straight line down to his nose. Super cute, in my opinion.
