Wind, Hills and Motherhood. April 10th. Day 18. Raising two boys and two girls with quiet devotion, “CAN CH AM CH Barrett Mesa Lightning JH NSD” reminds us that true versatility never asks a mother to be only one thing. Beatrix nurtures her litter with grace, then slips out for a short run in the hills, returning steady, watchful, and completely herself.
Sunlight Devotion. April 9th. Day 17. Beatrix is the picture of devoted motherhood. In the warmth of the whelping box, she nourishes her litter of four—two boys and two girls—with calm attentiveness and grace. Healthy, content, and beautifully cared for, these puppies are flourishing under her exceptional care.
Thriving Growth. April 8th. Day 16. At Day 16, the Boone x Beatrix puppies are thriving, with weight charts reflecting consistent and impressive gains. Each puppy has doubled their weight from a week ago, highlighting excellent progress. We continue to watch over the litter closely, ensuring every puppy remains healthy, comfortable, and content.
Promise in Bloom. April 7th. Day 15. With her eyes now opening, Pink begins to take in the world around her, soft blink by soft blink. This Boone x Beatrix girl carries the sweetness of the nursery still, while hinting at the poise and presence yet to come.
Well Kept. April 6th. Day 14. The Boone x Beatrix puppies marked an important little milestone today with their deworming, each one tended to with quiet care. Beatrix received her medication as well, a gentle reminder that good breeding begins with diligence, health, and devoted stewardship.
The Puppy Pile Blueprint. April 5th. Day 13. On Easter Sunday, the Boone x Beatrix four have formed the sweetest puppy pile—four silver little lambs asleep in perfect harmony. Full of warmth, peace, and promise, they make today’s celebration feel especially gentle.
Instinct Before Sight. April 4th. Day 12. Eyes still sealed, but already on the move. At just 12 days old, our orange boy from the Boone x Beatrix litter is navigating the world on instinct alone. This is what ‘born to hunt’ looks like before it even begins.
Beneath Beatrix’s Gaze. April 3rd. Day 11. Cradled beneath Beatrix’s tender gaze, our blue-collar boy rests in a world of quiet devotion. In this Boone x Beatrix moment, elegance begins softly—through warmth, trust, and the steady comfort of a mother’s love.
The World is Opening Up. April 2nd. Day 10. Pink collar girl is stepping from the newborn fog into the wider world—soft eyes, quiet curiosity, and that unmistakable Barrett poise. Tiny today, but already hinting at the elegance, steadiness, and presence we treasure in a Weimaraner.
Futurity (and Maturity). April 1st. Day 09. We believe this Boone x Beatrix litter holds the promise of a true dual Futurity future—combining natural hunting ability, intelligent trainability, and the kind of balance and presence that belongs in the show ring. It is the very picture of the field-and-show excellence we strive to produce. Here Green Girl enjoys a moment away from her siblings on a plush grey-brown piece of furniture.
Social Conditioning. March 31st. Day 08. Even temperaments start early. Beatrix fully trusts Friedrich around her one-week-old pups, showing the stable, socially conditioned nature we value. We strive to raise puppies exposed to life, people, dogs, and everyday conditions from the very beginning.
Nails. March 30th. Day 07. Three current benefits to keeping nails trimmed:
This week, clipping. Next week, we’re cutting. And the following week, we’re grinding. And down the road, regular pawdicures will prevent joint issues and injuries, and keep our wood floors lookin’ polished and purdy. Win win!
The Rhythm of Beatrix. March 29th. Day 06. Beatrix’s first week is a loving little rhythm: feed, watch over her puppies, weigh them, check in, rest by the nearby bed, socialize with Kim, Shonagh, Michael, and Friedrich, then head outside for California mountain air before returning to more meals, stimulation, and puppy care. Soon, those eyes will open and the fun will begin all over again for Beatrix (and Team Barrett).
Science. March 28th. Day 05. We treat puppy rearing with a little science and a lot of love—tracking weights and growth stats throughout the puppy phase to help us evaluate health, monitor progress, and spot trends early. Because in our world, data is cute, too! The data above is for the Boone x Beatrix litter! As you can see, the whole litter is consistently growing at a healthy rate with uniform weight between all puppies in this litter of 4.
Tail Docking. March 27th. Day 04. Tail docking is done with calm, careful timing—because even a gray ghost deserves a polished debut. We just wrapped it up yesterday for Beatrix Burgundy’s four puppies: tiny tails, big style, and a very snappy start.
Early Neurological Stimulation. March 26th. Day 03. Barrett puppies start Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) on day 3: tiny paws, big science. We add gentle “stress” so future Weimaraners grow cooler nerves, braver hearts, and bigger adventure brains. Nerdy? Yep. Worth it? Totally.
Stripes. March 25th. Day 02. Newborn Weimaraners are born with soft “chipmunk” stripes that fade within days as their solid silver coats emerge. Camouflage? Quirk? Whatever the reason, we celebrate these fleeting markings as the first hint of future “Gray Ghost” elegance.
Village. March 24th. Day 01. Breeding isn’t done in a vaccuum. This newest generation of Weimaraners is brought to you by Barrett Weimaraners, Phantasm Weimaraners, Zauberhaft Weimaraners, Cheyenne Weimaraners, Smokey Topaz Weimaraners and alllllllll the Weimaraners in our pedigree behind those breeders. The mammas and the pappas, the grammas and the grandpas, the great aunts and great great uncles… have all done amazing things to demonstrate how special the Weimaraner breed is. As a collective, we will know more about these future puppies than anyone will ever want to know. Got a nooker? That came from Grandma Mango. How about a hunting buddy? Just like Pappa Boone. As for Beatrix? She falls into the line of great, doting mammas and is doing her part to keep her little grapes fed, clean, warm, and dry.
Arrival. March 23rd. Day 00.
Barrett Weimaraners is pleased to announce the safe arrival of two boys and two girls out of our Burgundy Litter this evening. !!! Beatrix and her little grapes (Chambertin, Pommard, Mercury, and Macon) are doing great. The babies are stripy, feisty, and hungry! Prospective families will be notified in the next 24 hours (after we catch up on some sleep). We’ll do our best to post photos here for the next eight weeks.
Mandate. March 18th.
Beatrix is confirmed via x-ray to be expecting a litter of puppies within the next week. The interest list for these puppies is mostly comprised of families who are seeking girls. As of this writing, we may have availability for a family seeking a male puppy; inquiries for female puppies are closed. Let the countdown begin!!!
