Kya

Kya | Touchstone Barrett Sundance Kid – Age 6 months

DOB: September 30, 2020

Owner: Deborah Thompson

Once upon a time, a man by the name of Steve Reynolds purchased a little dog he intended to casually hunt over. One day, Steve met with Terry Chandler/Rugerheim Kennels, and after seeing the dog work, Terry whispered Steve that SCHULTZ was a one-in-a-lifetime dog. He exhibited talent that was unseen in Weimaraners of the time, and Terry encouraged Steve to field trial him.

Field trial him, he did.

To make a very long story short, SCHULTZ would break records, garner national fame, later become inducted into the Weimaraner Hall of Fame, and as of 2021, the National Bird Dog Museum Hall of Fame in Tennessee as well.

Twenty years after SCHULTZ broke onto the scene, I learned that Anne/Touchstone Weimaraners had the last remaining vial of frozen semen on the dog, and that she was going to hang on tight until she decided it was time to use it.

That time came in 2020, THIRTY years after SCHULTZ was born. Anne decided it was time to use the frozen semen she had stored at the bank and if she was successful, she would allow one of the puppies to come to Barrett Weimaraners. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two months after the perfectly timed artificial insemination by Dr. Dana Bleifer of Rose City Veterinary Hospital, the last-ever SCHULTZ puppies were born on the evening of September 20, 2020. Eight weeks later, I met Anne out on the field trial grounds, the same grounds where SCHULTZ ran as a trial dog about 25 years prior, evaluated the litter of puppies, and latched onto one little girl.

Only time will tell if she inherits the talents of her father. For now, she’s a busy little puppy getting socialized, learning to swim, and getting plenty of time to “just enjoy being a puppy.”
