Duke | Barrett Duke of Independence – Age 13 weeks
DOB: November 29, 2020
Owner: Calderon Family
DUKE was Red Boy out of our 2020 Wiley x Sookie litter, which was bred for hunting endurance with independent range.
At seven weeks of age, the entire litter was brought out to the field trial grounds for aptitude and bird drive testing. It was clear on this day that DUKE had a lot of reach.
The entire litter was taken out to an open field for observation. Many of the puppies explored the grounds within about 20 yards from the evaluators. (Puppies at this age will typically range out about 10 yards). Duke went off on his own and had so much fun exploring by himself that he didn’t even notice that the rest of us had left him. He finally looked back at us while we were about 75 yards away. This is a zoomed in photo of that moment.
Because we can’t tell how much a field trial prospect has at this age, DUKE is hanging out with us at Barrett HQ for “further evaluation.” While he’s with us, we’ve been able to observe the following:
At home, DUKE is incredibly affectionate and people-focused. His favorite thing to do is to cuddle on Barry. He’s also an extrovert, greeting everyone he meets with “hi! Are you my friend?!” A fast little buggar, we can hear him pitter-pattering all over the house when he’s running from point A to point B. He wolfs his meals like he’s at an eating contest, and crates up quietly at night, all night.
